Hoobastank: "Every Man for Himself"

19:25 Jul 26 2006
Times Read: 703

Three men, two moving from seat to seat on the stage and one by the speakers, start tuning guitars and testing volumes. Calling back signals to the Sound Guy and the adjusting continues. The sound check is going well by all indications. Moving from the front back to the drums, one of the crew takes a seat and starts testing the mikes and speakers there. Its great to see this level of work, each member of the road crew has a job and does it well. They check the equipment and recheck it, its gota be perfect. One of the crew takes up one of three guitars and starts strumming the puts it down after adjusting the strings and testing them once more. The next guitar is done the same as the first and then the third, finnaly moving back to the drums. Readjusting the snare and the base, then tapping out a beat that you can feel through the area, then quiet. Everyone leaves the stage and there is silence, for all of thirty seconds.

Three miniutes to 1pm EST and the gathering of children, adults and soliders in uniform grow excited. Signs placed here and there around the base give you the clues to the excitement. Hoobastank has come to Fort Meade and is going to play at the Post Exchange.

Filling an area of approximatly 100ft by 50ft, those gathered start chanting "Hoobastank, Hoobastank, Hoobastank..." I have just had the pleasure of returning from a live promotional playing from Hoobastank. They are currently promoting their new CD "Every Man for Himself.

The mood overall was festive and everyone was growing anxious. The mini concert was supposed to start at 1pm but they where held up by the staff of the base paper, for interviews.. go figure.. At 1:29 Hoobastank takes the stage!!!

They played a total of four songs, one from each of their three CDs, and the fourth song for the finally was from the new cd and titled "Inside of you." It was great and I have a wonderfull time!!! I look forward to listening to the CD that I baught.

I was able to record one full video of the first song, but only half of the second song. I took a few pictures but had to delete more then I wanted to for space and because people kept walking infront of me, oh well stuff happens.

I left the performance area in the middle of the last song and missed a great photo opertunity at the end, but it put me near the front of the line for autographs. I thanked each of the guys for taking the time from their scheduals to come play for us. They signed my CD case and thanked me for comming to see them. There was also a parting message given to me.. "Thank your Soldier for his service and for doing what he is doing." I smiled and said I would tell him.
